Is 12mm toughened glass breakable?
Yes, any glass can break, including 12mm toughened glass, but under heavy impact it shatters into small, blunt pieces instead of sharp shards. Where a broken pane must stay in place, such as overhead glazing or railing infill, choose toughened laminated glass instead.
How strong is 12mm toughened glass?
12mm toughened glass is about 5 times stronger than ordinary annealed glass of the same thickness, which is why it is used for frameless doors and railings. Real strength also depends on the fittings, the edge work and how the pane is supported, so have each opening checked by your architect.
