How laminatedlayers are built

Toughened laminated glass thickness comes from two equal toughened panes and one PVB layer. Each diagram is drawn to the same scale, so you can compare the laminated glass thickness chart by eye.

What islaminated glass?

Laminated glass is two panes of glass bonded together with an interlayer, usually PVB (polyvinyl butyral), so the glass holds together when it is broken. That makes it safety laminated glass: pieces stay stuck to the interlayer and the pane stays in the frame.

Our toughened laminated glass, also called laminated toughened glass, tempered laminated glass or toughened and laminated glass, uses two toughened panes. It adds security, helps to reduce noise (acoustic laminated glass) and cuts UV, so it suits windows, railings, skylights, partitions and facades. It is also sold as laminated safety glass, and the price list above covers every build.

PVB laminated glass:interlayer options

PVB for laminated glass comes in three types. The type changes how the glass looks and how much privacy it gives; the strength stays with the toughened panes.

  • Edge of a laminated glass pane with a clear PVB interlayer

    Clear

Clear PVB. High clarity and a natural look; the standard choice for windows, railings and skylights.

  • Edge of a laminated glass pane with a milky white PVB interlayer

    Milky

Milky PVB gives white laminated glass, also sold as milk white or diffused white laminated glass. It adds privacy and soft, diffused light.

  • Edge of a laminated glass pane with a tinted PVB interlayer

    Tinted

Tinted PVB reduces glare and gives a grey or bronze tone, used on facades and where a darker look is wanted.

For custom jobs we also work with SGP laminated glass, which uses SentryGlas from Kuraray in place of PVB. Ask us for a quote if your project needs it. Frosted laminated glass, laminated glass in black or grey, and laminated glass colours are made with tinted PVB or tinted glass.

Laminated glassFAQs

Short answers to what buyers ask most, with the price list as the reference for every figure.

What is the price of laminated glass per sq ft?

Laminated glass price per sq ft at CLSG runs from about ₹220–225 for 9.52mm clear toughened laminated glass to ₹430–450 for 22.28mm clear; frosted and tinted or reflective are quoted on request (ex-works Sonepat, excluding GST and transport). The price of laminated glass depends on thickness and finish, so the price list gives a rate for each build.

Is CLSG laminated glass BIS certified?

Yes. CLSG architectural safety glass is certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under IS 2553 (Part 1), the Indian standard for safety glass used in buildings. Our toughened laminated glass is made at our plant in Sonepat, Haryana. Ask our team for a copy of the current certificate with your quote.

What is laminated glass?

Laminated glass is two panes of glass bonded together with a plastic interlayer, usually PVB, under heat and pressure. If the glass breaks, the pieces stay stuck to the interlayer and the pane stays in the frame. This is why laminated safety glass is used overhead, on railings and in windows that need security.

What is the difference between toughened and laminated glass?

Toughened glass is one heat-treated pane that breaks into small blunt pieces and falls out of the frame. Toughened laminated glass is two toughened panes bonded with an interlayer: it cracks, but the pieces stay on the interlayer and the pane stays in place. Laminated costs more, and it is the right choice for overhead glass and railings.

Is laminated glass or toughened glass better, and which costs more?

Neither is better for every job. Toughened glass costs less (see our toughened glass price list at /toughened-glass-price/) and suits doors, shower screens and partitions. Toughened laminated glass costs ₹220–450 per sq ft and suits skylights, canopies, railings and facades, where a broken pane must stay in place.

What is PVB laminated glass?

PVB laminated glass has a layer of polyvinyl butyral between two panes of glass. PVB is the full form behind the name. It is a tough, clear plastic film that bonds the panes and holds the pieces together if the glass breaks. At CLSG the PVB comes in clear, milky and tinted options.

What thickness of laminated glass do I need?

It depends on the span, the support and the load, so confirm with your fabricator or engineer. As a guide, 9.52mm suits windows and railing infill, 11.52mm and 13.52mm suit railings, canopies and skylights, 17.52mm suits frameless balustrades and large skylights, and 22.28mm suits heavy-duty facades and overhead glass.

Is laminated glass good for windows and noise?

Yes. Laminated glass for windows adds security, because a broken pane stays in the frame, and the interlayer also helps to reduce noise compared with a single pane of the same glass. We do not quote decibel figures, as the result depends on the full window system. Tell us the location and we will advise.

What is white or milky laminated glass, and how is it different from frosted glass?

White laminated glass, also called milk white or diffused white laminated glass, uses a milky PVB interlayer. The glass stays clear and the interlayer gives privacy and soft diffused light. Frosted laminated glass is different: the glass surface itself is frosted. Both are available, and the table lists the frosted rate.

Do you supply laminated glass in Delhi NCR, and is there a minimum order?

Yes. We make laminated glass in Sonepat and supply Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad, and we can arrange delivery across India. There is no minimum order for flat laminated glass. Send the thickness, interlayer, finished size and quantity through the quote form and we reply with a rate.
