Toughened or laminated glass for doors?
Use toughened glass for most doors, and toughened laminated glass where security matters. Toughened glass, also called tempered glass, is 5× stronger than raw glass and breaks into more than 50 small blunt pieces per 50 × 50mm. Laminated glass for doors bonds two panes with an interlayer, so a broken door stays in place and is harder to break through.
For homes, a 12mm toughened door is the usual choice. For shops, offices and main entrances on the street, toughened laminated glass adds security, and the interlayer also cuts more outside noise.
| Toughened | Toughened laminated | |
|---|---|---|
| When broken | Small blunt pieces | Pieces stay on the interlayer |
| Security | Good | Better: harder to break through |
| Sound | Standard | Better sound reduction |
| Price (₹/sq ft) | ₹135–200 | ₹360–365 (13.52mm) |
How do you order toughened glass for a door?
Measure the opening, choose the door type and thickness, and send us the sizes with a drawing of the holes. That is all we need to quote.
- Measure. Give the finished glass width and height for each door panel, in mm or feet. For a frameless door, allow the gaps your fittings need at the top, bottom and sides.
- Choose the glass. 12mm toughened for frameless hinged doors, 10–12mm for sliding doors, 8–10mm for framed doors, and 13.52mm toughened laminated where security matters.
- Mark the holes. Show patch fitting, handle and lock positions on a drawing. Toughened glass cannot be drilled later, so this step decides the fit.
- Pick a finish. Clear is standard. Frosted, tinted and fluted glass for office cabins or bathroom doors are priced on request.
- Decide on fittings. Buy the glass only, or ask us to take up the fabrication on request.
We cut, drill and edge the glass to your drawing, toughen it at our Sonepat plant, check it and dispatch it PAN India.
Can holes be made in a toughened glass door?
Yes, but only before toughening. Toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled after it is toughened, so patch fitting holes, handle holes, lock cut-outs and notches are made first. Send us a drawing with the door size and every hole position, and we cut, drill and edge the glass, then toughen it. Maximum single panel: 2400 × 3660mm. CLSG is certified to BIS IS 2553 Part 1 for architectural safety glass. Related: glass partitions and glass railings.
